“KIDS JOIN HANDS AND HUG THE WORLD”
Dear Colleagues,
All teachers with our years of experience working with children have realised that nothing compares to the smile and the capabilities of a child. We feel hope for the future through their joy, and through their eyes we envision a better world.
By investing in their minds and their warm hearts, we wanted to show them pictures of children from other countries of the world. This gave them a glimpse of the way other children live, with their joys and their problems.
Through one of our school teaching programs which related to whole class and year-level projects, we attempted to sensitise our students about all the children of the world. Together, we realised, that there are no borders, there are no races, orders or economical differences when we talk about the hearts of children and their wishes, and so we came up with the following conclusion that:
“ALL CHILDREN ARE EQUAL AND THEY HAVE THE SAME NEEDS AND RIGHTS”
This is a thought, which many times we make and we support but seldom do we act upon it.
We read about and worked on similar topics such as: working children, the consequences of war on the life of a child, migration, refugees and other similar topics.
Our students have shown much enthusiasm throughout our discussions about these issues and after sharing their thoughts and suggestions we completed a wonderful project which envelopes all our thoughts and concerns relating to these issues. Following this, we worked with and became supporters of UNICEF. Now, we have reached a point were the children wish to share these thoughts and feelings.
We designed a “Protypaki” (a child figure made of cloth) which will be the means for passing on the message of our children, and with your help and support we will be able to pass on your students’ messages and thoughts.
Hence, we invite you to draw your messages and wishes on your own student messenger (the child made of cloth which we will be sending you if you choose to participate). Once returned to us it will then join hands with ours and we will endeavour to let the messages conveyed “travel” as much as possible. The aim of this project is to convey the messages of love, solidarity and hope for a better future.
When the ‘little people’ from Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Finland and all other participating countries are prepared and sent back to us, our messages of love and hope will be united and celebrated at a school event that will take place in Thessaloniki this year.
Throughout the duration of this process each school will be able to access our school site forkids.protypa.gr which was created for this particular project. You will be able to follow the path of each ‘little person’: it’s welcoming at every school, the recording of the children’s messages, the name the children wish to give this figure and the main idea each school wishes to convey, which will be written in the “heart” of the child.
The future aim of our school will be to create a partnership of schools around the world aimed at providing help, of any kind, to children who have a need for it.
Participation process
If you choose to participate please complete the application form attached to this message and send it back to us as soon as possible. Please note that our school will take on all the postage expenses to and from your school. Once you have discussed these issues with your students and you have worked on the cloth figure we ask that you send it back to our school.
Throughout this process we ask that you send us any photos, videos or information we could upload on our site.
We hope that you will join us in our effort to convey the hopes and dreams of our children especially now in these difficult times that our world is experiencing.
We thank you in advance and look forward to your collaboration in this combined effort. We will be available to answer any further questions you may have at any given time.
Kindest regards,
The teachers of Grade 3 of Protypa Ekpedeftiria Thessalonikis
